Dr. Edwin T. Upchurch
Dr. Ed Upchurch has over 40 years of systems design, performance engineering and project management experience, and developed performance engineering methodologies that assure highly complex systems meet designed functional and reliability requirements. Dr. Upchurch successfully applied these methods in converging biometrics and Big Data in large scale systems including the FBI’s Integrated Automated Identification System (IAFIS), its Next Generation Identification (NGI), and the UK’s NAFIS. Dr. Upchurch is a founder of Emu Solutions and currently serves on its Board of Directors. He has been a Faculty Associate at Caltech's Center for Advanced Computing Research (CACR) and a Principal Engineer at Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). He has led several high performance computing projects funded by Department of Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA), Department of Energy (DOE), US Army, Department of Defense (DOD) and NASA. Dr. Upchurch has had senior technical management responsibilities at Control Data, Computer Science Corporation, Radian, Lockheed Martin, and Shell Oil. He taught performance engineering courses at University of Texas at Austin, Caltech, National University of Singapore and University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia. He has provided performance engineering consulting to many firms including NIMA, SAIC, CTA, IBM, American Express, Harris Corp., Oracle, UNISYS, ARAMCO, Singapore Telecoms, British Telecoms, and Saudi Arabian Ministry of Interior.
