Gerry Smith

Mr. Smith is an IDTP Senior Consultant specializing in Smart Card technology and solutions. He has over 30 years of experience related to research, development and deployment of card solutions, systems and terminals. His experience and background includes e-commerce solutions, security techniques, personalization policies and direct involvement with multiple-application Smart Card deployments. Mr. Smith’s project experience includes the American Express ExpressPay, Blue and IDKeeper programs, and other pioneering initiatives with the major credit card companies and recognized banking institutions. He is often a featured industry speaker lecturing on Smart Card topical matters in the US and overseas. Mr. Smith has extensive knowledge in various Smart Card operating systems that include JavaCard, MULTOS, and ISO/IEC 7816 (Native, proprietary), as well as client-side programming using Java, C#.NET and Visual Studio. Mr. Smith is an active participant in the technical standards bodies, currently serving as Project editor for the ISO smart card interoperability standard ISO/IEC 24727 Part 1 entitled Architecture. He has also been a major contributor to the NIST FIPS-201 initiative (HSPD-12), and is active in other ISO and ANSI Smart card related activities that include ISO/IEC JTC1 SC17 work groups, ANSI/INCITS B10, and X9. Mr. Smith is active in the industry Smart Card Alliance and was a board member to Global Platform and the Mobile Payment Forum. During his career, Mr. Smith has had senior management responsibilities in technical and business development positions at SHARP Microelectronics, American Express, ORGA Card Systems, Zenith Data Systems, Schlumberger, VeriFone, Mars Electronics International, and the Department of Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA). Mr. Smith attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology graduating cum laude with a degree in Electronics Engineering, and continued post graduate study at Rutgers University.
